If you can't measure it, you can't manage it. It's a cliché, but it's true. As an online business you have understand how many visitors your site receives. You have to know how much time they spend there, where they come from, and what pages they view.

Page View/ Page Impression - the number of times a web page is accessed, regardless of how many hits generated.

Unique View - A page view by a unique person or robot. If a someone has visited your web page yesterday, and they are returning today, their visit would qualify as a page view. The visit yesterday would qualify as a page view since it is the original page view within the measured time period.

Referrer - An external page that links to your site. By studying your referrers, you can determine who is linked to your site. Understanding your referrer data can help you where your search engine traffic is coming from.

Counters

Perhaps you remember seeing page visitor counters on website you have visited in the past. You may have seen a box showing that you are visitor number 37. Counters are normally located in the bottom section of a web page. Page counters are a sign newbies. They are ugly and unprofessional. Worse, they are useless. The data gained from counters are unreliable. Don't use them.

Trackers

Many times when I read about the What-To-Do list I understand what it says but do not know how to do it. For example, I know what trading link is but I have not tried it before and have no idea on how to do it. Since this blog is for me to share with you what I learn, I am going to explore these items and share it in the subsequent blogs. Below is an article on how to drive traffic to your blog.

Drive Traffic to Your Blog by Araceli Molina

There are many factors that make blogs much better than normal WebPages including the speed at which blogs are indexed, ability to submit to blog directories & normal directories, pings and track backs. All these little things can help drive more traffic to blogs. Here are 15 popular techniques you can use:

1.) Create at least four keyword posts per day. Most of the top blogs such as Boing Boing, Daily Kos, and Instapundit (with literally tens of thousands of visitors per day) publish an average of 30 small 100-150 word posts per day according to "Secrets of the A-list Bloggers: Lots of Short Posts" by TNL.net

2.) Submit to My Yahoo! When you submit your own RSS to My Yahoo it is indexed by Yahoo.

3.) Submit to Google's Reader. When you submit your own blog RSS to Google's Reader the Google Blog Search will index your site.

4.) Add a relevant link directory to your blog and trade links like a demon possessed! Although it may take more time than simply submitting to a search engine one time, this method is perhaps the best way to drive traffic to your site. Use software such as Zeus to speed up the link trading process.

5.) Use ping sites like ping-o-matic. Ping your site every time you add a new post.

6.) Submit your blog to traditional search engines such as AltaVista, and MSN.

7.) Submit your blog to traditional directories such as DMOZ. Directories (particularly DMOZ) increase relevance with Google. DMOZ is very picky, but what do you have to lose by trying?

8.) Submit to as many RSS Directories and Search Engines as possible. This is a simple but repetitive process that can be done with software such as RSS SUBMIT.

9.) Comment on other blogs. Do not just leave short, lazy comments like "I agree." Leave well thought out replies that will force readers to wonder "who wrote this?"

10.) Use track backs. If there is a blog that you refer to or quote and it is highly relevant to your subject, leave a track back. It increases your link popularity and may even score a few interested readers from the linked site.

11.) Go offline. Use newspaper ads, public bulletin boards, business cards, even stickers to let as many people as possible know your blog exists.

12.) Ad a link to your blog in your e-mail signature block.

13.) Use Groups (Usenet). Find a relevant group on Google groups, Yahoo groups, MSN groups or any of the thousands of other FREE group services and find like minded people and talk with them. Make sure your use your blog URL like it is your name.

So many "newbie" internet marketers struggle with the logistics of designing their first sites. Learning to code tables, CSS, Adsense, affiliate code positioning and the associated heavy lifting learning curve in executing all of this in an aesthetically appealing way is robbing them of their most precious resource: Time.

I know this only because I wasted just about the first year of my online marketing experience on trying to design the perfect looking site. And with a constant stream of great sales and marketing messages brimming in my brain - I instead opted on perfecting the art of the *float* and *Divs* and making for fancy rollover effects with my navigational links..:-)

All of which made me a total of about Zero dollars - Which roughly translates into a piss poor ROI on time and effort spent launching my internet marketing empire!

In the end I became pretty good at making pretty pages. And guess what - other than the inherent value in learning something new, it was - by and large, a complete and utter waste of time and energy.

And with the slow migration of all of the major search engines to * quality * results, the days of trying to game Google with cloaked URL's, Re-directs and Smart Pages are well behind us, and that is a good thing. Inserting Adsense Into WordPress

If you own a WordPress blog and you are a newbie like me, you probably will struggle a bit to figure out how to put your Adsense Ad there.

This is what I found out (if you have a better way to do it, pls help to enlighten me):

1. To insert the ad, click on Presentation -> Theme Editor -> Main Index
2. Use the function find in the browser to look for ‹? php the_content
3. Before this, paste:

‹div style="float:left;">
Paste your 250x300 adsense code here to display the ads at the top left of your post.
To make it display at the top right, change the word "float:left" to "float:right"
‹/div>

And now your ads will be blended into the contents!

With this, I hope it will help most of the beginner. For more advance stuff, you might want to refer to this resource.

Everyone loves freebies.....
Especially if you are new to Internet Marketing business and do not want to invest much yet, free software are the best tools to test drive your business.

To build your web page, commonly used software available are Microsoft FrontPage and Adobe Dreamweaver. You can try Microsoft FrontPage 60-days Trial. In 2007 release, FrontPage is called, or rather divided into SharePoint Designer and Expression Web. You can read more here. You can also download them individually if you do not want to download the whole micro soft Office, just click on the links above.

Alternatively for Dreamweaver, you can also download Adobe Dreamweaver Trial.

Now if you don't like the restriction of Trial and don't want to pay a single cent, try out NVU. It is also build on WYSIWYG (ie What You See Is What You Get) editing of pages, so if you know how to use Word Processor, you can create your web page!!! You can DOWNLOAD FREE NVU HERE. It even comes with free NVU User Guide and Web Design Tutorials

My work commitment leaves little time for me to learn and to blog and while I want to "get serious" working on the Internet, I was asked to go for business trip for a week.....

You know, you have to "entertain" clients on overseas trip like that and I doubt I have time to blog.....and I think I better don't while I am drunk.....

Free Hosting is nice, but it comes with a price.....

The price of 'being controlled', waiting time (ie you have to email your hosting party and let them configure it for you), not able to learn it yourself, being too dependent on others, etc.... I guess there are more to the list.... For me it is just about don't like to be restricted.

Today I signed up with Hostgator.com. It has many good reviews from both the public and my acquaintances. You can host unlimited domains (for up to 100GB disk space and 1000GB bandwitdth) with $9.95/month plan.

You can even earn extra $ by referrals or joining their affiliates. Every signup will earn you between US$50~125. Add Cent$ using Adsense

As you might have already notice, Google Ads were added to my blog!

My Adsense Account was approved yesterday and I can now include Google Ads to earn extra....
Just in case you do not already know about Adsense, you place Google Ads in your blog / website and if anyone clicks on your add, YOU will get paid! It's that simple. But never, never, never click on the ads on your site yourself......You account will get suspended.

These are the steps I use for setting up my Adsense

You first have to apply an account from Google
Then you make sure that you have content in your site
Everytime you add content to your site, you can broadcast it by going to this website: http://pingomatic.com/. Make sure you 'ping' only the relevant sites
Keep updating your sites until your Adsense account is approved (Google will not allow ads to be placed in non-content site)
Once your account is approved, if you are using blog, go to page layout->add page elements->choose adsense.
Voila! You can now start EARNING EXTRA $$$....

You can add up to 3 ad units and 1 link units. BTW, Google has a comprehensive tutorials on adsense and you will receive it in your email when your account is approved.

Yes you may say "NO BIG DEAL" but it was exhilrarating to see my first web page displayed on World Wide Web.

Eye opening is an understatement for what I saw today.... It was ELECTRIFYING and MIND BLOWING!!!

It was the 2nd day of Internet Coaching Workshop

It ain't ordinary "this is the format and this is what you do" stuff. It is about attraction, curiosity, hypnosis, psychology and more. The secrets were stripped bare one by one by the guru Jo Han Mok. Two thumbs up!
